Nate's first-author paper has been published in Plant Physiology! Maёl Baudin, Derek Xiang and Jana Hassan contributed to the research, and our Australian collaborators, Lung-Yu Liang, Weiwen Dai, James Murphy and Isabelle Lucet performed the pseudokinase assays. Nate analyzed error-prone mutants of ZED1 and identified a variant that enables recognition of HopZ1a with tomato ZAR1 without autoactivating immunity. Since ZAR1 is found in almost all flowering plants, this work enables the expansion of ZAR1 recognition to non-model plants. Congratulations Nate!
