Karl's paper on a putative topoisomerase, ZIN1, that promotes bacterial virulence is now out in First Look at Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions! We identified a previously uncharacterized protein as a putative topoisomerase that interacts with multiple P. syringae effector proteins. Plant lacking ZIN1 are more resistant to infection, while plants overexpressing ZIN1 are more susceptible. Using RNAseq, we found that ZIN1 regulates a multiple different biological processes, especially ribosomal protein genes.
